Sujeeva Hapugalle, has been recognized for her artistry and engaging performances for audiences in Asia, UK, USA, the Middle East, Australia and other destinations around the world.

 

Sujeeva was born in Sri Lanka, and started learning music and piano with her mother Indranee Hapugalle.  She continued her studies with Mary Billimoria and was awarded a full scholarship to the Royal College of Music London. Her professor of music at RCM was David Parkhouse. She won numerous National and International Competitions in the UK and was also a recipient of the President’s Award in Sri Lanka.

 

Sujeeva has broadcast on Classic FM (UK) and BBC Television and has been a frequent solo concert artist for many prestigious Concert platforms and festivals including the Chopin Society and the Beethoven Piano Society of Europe in their concert series at St. Martin in the Fields and St John’s Smith Square in London.     Piano Concertos performed with orchestras include the Tchaikovsky No 1, Rachmaninov  No 2,  Beethoven No. 1 and No 5,  Grieg,  Saint Saens No. 2 and  Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue.

 

She is currently a popular Headline Entertainer - presenting Solo Classical Concerts for 6 Star Cruise Lines Sliverseas , Crystal and Cunard’s Queen Mary2, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth.

 

Sujeeva is an active music educator with a private teaching practice in the San Francisco Bay Area. She  receives  regular invitations to present Master Classes and Lectures on concert tours and serves as adjudicator of competitions and festivals in the US and UK.  Most recently her students were selected as artists  from competitive lists of international musicians to the Tanglewood Summer Festival in Boston, Gala Concerto Festival in Perugia-Italy, Morningside Music Bridge International Festival at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing-China and to the Music @ Menlo International Chamber Music Festival in California. Her students have also won awards at the Pacific Musical Society, Marilyn Mindell, San Francisco Chopin Society, US Open International, American Fine Arts Festival(AFAF) International and American Protege International Concerto competitions. Sujeeva's students have performed over 25 winners recitals at Weill Hall and Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall in New York.

 

Sujeeva  has been a keen supporter and performing artist for several charities in Sri Lanka, UK and the USA. She was a select artist for the Sunera Foundation and Zonta International in Sri Lanka and for Sir Yehudi Menuhin’s “Live Music Now” series in the UK.  She has served on the Board of the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra.  Amongst other projects, she initiated the Rush Hour Concert Series in the Financial District of San Francisco.

 

Her Studio Project, “Musical Bridges" raised over $25,000 over the past five years to support public schools in the San Francisco Bay Area. These funds have been used to gift a new piano to enhance Music programs at the Redwood Shores Elementary School and the Peninsula Youth Symphony.  Most recently Musical Bridges supported music Education in Public Schools in collaboration with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra League and  the "Kohl for Kids" Program conducted by Music at Kohl.  Her initiatives in community outreach have had special recognition in the US, UK & in Sri Lanka.

 

Sujeeva is listed in the international roster of Steinway Concert Artists
